Abstract. The automotive industry is a wide field of connecting many engineering and scientific fields together in one systematic place. A lot of changes has occurred on this field since it came into existence. Because it’s a whole system of science and engineering, it is affected by a lot of factors and needs to adapt according to changes in these factors. This paper provides a critical review of chapter fifty-five of ‘Project management in the automotive industry’ by Christophe Midler, and Christian Navarre, that was conducted to provide a review of automotive industry’s history regarding project management. Followed by a personal estimation of the next phase. Introduction. The article provides a discussion on how automotive industry was affected by the surrounding circumstances, and how did project management for this industry has changed gradually from being functional focused, to project based, to innovation based. And how these circumstance helped shaping automotive industry into implementing these strategies. Project management transformed automotive industry based on product strategy and competitive environment. The article discussed these changes and divided them into four phases, starting from postwar period and ending in 2003. Each one of these phases discusses a major change in the industry that happened during a specific period of time, and the outcomes of these changes and did these outcomes change the industry as a whole.
